but I didn't want to catch it,
I wanted to run with it,
to set mine free."

Welcome, friends.

Kelly Marcelo Indy Photographer-2_WEB.jpg

It's so good to have you here.
I can't even begin to express how happy I am that you are considering me to be your wedding photographer. This time in your life is such an incredible adventure. There will be parts of this journey that are stressful and difficult and overwhelming, but in the midst of it all lies what I treasure the most: real moments with real people celebrating raw, genuine love.

Photography originally entered my life when I needed it most, a light during the hard times. It allowed me to see the world in all of it's magic and beauty. Photography as a craft demanded my vulnerability. It demanded that I acknowledge the quiet beauty in the ordinary moments, the beauty in the in between. It unfolded the intricate magic of light bouncing off a glass cup and leaves dancing in the wind. It opened my life to a world of creativity and wonder.

When I photographed my first wedding in 2013, I completely fell in love. Yes, I was enamored by the decorations and the pretty flowers, but beyond that, my (hopeless romantic) heart connected with photographing weddings on a much deeper level. On that first wedding day, I got to witness overwhelming love and joy that could fill oceans. And I was hooked. I decided that I wanted to spend my life capturing the beauty of feelings. When I say that it's an honor to be considered as your wedding photographer, I say that with the utmost sincerity. When a couple invests in me, they are saying that they want to see their wedding through my point of view, through my eyes. And that is such a beautiful, marvelous gift.

My approach to wedding photography is centered around capturing raw emotion. From the fierce and the gentle to the passionate and the vulnerable, I strive to create work that reflects your unique love, however it looks. Because beyond the Pinterest boards and a seemingly never ending to-do list lies your love. Your real, honest, intimate, playful, deep love. And I want to make sure that that stays at heart of it all. There will be no overly forced poses and fake smiles here. In front of my camera, I get you moving and talking and loving on each other so that your natural chemistry and personalities shine. We'll get a little dirty while hiking through nature or dance through city streets. And yes, we'll get a little weird and make some art and have a lot of fun doing it.

The couples I work with love fiercely and dream endlessly. They create art and music and read poems and fiction and everything in between. They teach and nurture and fight to change the world. They care. My couples don't play by the rules; they care more about crafting a day that let's their true personalities shine instead of following a list of traditions. Most importantly, they value the art of photography, not just because wedding websites say they have to, but because they desire artistic, creative imagery that will serve as a legacy for generations to come.

So take your time to look around and get a feel for how this process will look like, and let's begin this journey together.

the wedding experience

1. Consultation

After your initial inquiry email, we'll schedule a little coffee date to get to know each other. It's always my goal to meet my clients before booking to make sure that we're a right fit and such an important step in the wedding planning process! At our consultation, we'll spend some time getting to know each other. I freaking love meeting with a couple for the first time and discovering our mutual love of the outdoors, antique shops, and dogs (please come prepared with all the puppy photos to share with me). I'll get to hear your love story (my favorite part), and we'll discuss your overall vision for your wedding and the photographs that you're envisioning. Based off of your vision, together we can discuss which collection would be right for your day. And if you're having a nontraditional wedding, we can definitely discuss creating a custom package to fir your needs. I'll go over all the little details of how our partnership would look like, from booking to after the wedding! If you're not located within the Indianapolis area, I'm also available to set up Skype and FaceTime calls to get to know each other over the web.

2. contract & booking

Ready to move forward and book me as your wedding photographer? Email me with the coverage you and your partner have decided on, and I will send over my contract through my online client management software. It's clean, organized, and user friendly, so you can review easily! There's no confusing legal jumbo, just simple statements that ensure a successful partnership between us! You can officially book your date in my calendar with a signed contract and a $1,000 nonrefundable reservation retainer. I will send out an electronic invoice after I've received the signed contract from you with instructions on payment.

3. engagement session

An engagement session is included in each of my collections because I truly believe that these sessions are vital in helping couples be 100% comfortable on their wedding day. Before your session, we'll brainstorm possible locations to find a place that fits who you are as a couple and lets your love shine bright. Engagement session locations can be anywhere from your favorite coffeeshop or antique store to a hike with a view, wide, open fields, or a little piece of wilderness. Sometimes couples will have a special place in mind. If you don't, no need to worry! I have plenty of magical spots to recommend. The more unique the location is to you, the better. We'll take this time to celebrate this season in life, just you two, no distractions or wedding planning or crowds of people. Engagement sessions are usually during the evening hours, right before the beautiful, golden light you see during sunset. And you bet we'll chase the sunset until it's gone. We'll plan an hour and a half for your session. Your edited engagement photos will be sent 2-4 weeks after the session, delivered though a password protected online gallery. A print release is provided as well!

4. timeline scheduling

A month or two before your wedding, I'll reach out to begin planning your wedding day timeline. If you're working with a coordinator, we'll work together on this to make sure that we set aside the amount of time needed to capture everything you are envisioning. This process is one of my biggest priorities during out time together. By doing more planning before the wedding day, we can ensure that the day runs smoothly and comfortably while planning for the best photos possible! I have put together a wedding questionnaire that I send over electronically to help us prepare a draft timeline. Once we refine the timeline, I will input your final wedding day timeline into a pdf that includes all important contact information for both of us to have and distribute. The final collection payment is due one month before the wedding, so I will send over an invoice a week before your due date, which will be around the time we're planning the timeline as well.

5. the wedding day

It's wedding day! My second shooter and I will usually arrive towards the end of the hair and makeup process and begin capturing getting ready photos. We'll familiarize ourselves with the venue, scout potential photo locations, and begin taking detail photos at this time as well. If you decide to do a first look, we'll choose the location and ensure that everyone is on time for this special moment. On the wedding day, we always plan to have around 45 minutes to 1 hour for bride and groom portraits and 30 minutes each for wedding party portraits and family portraits. The placement of these portraits within the day will all depend on your individual weddings (we will have all this planned before you wedding during timeline scheduling!). For bride and groom portraits, if necessary, I like to divide the time throughout the day to ensure that we have some time for just you and your love during sunset. We'll capture the rest of the day in a documentary style, collecting all those intimate and emotional candid photos that you always imagined. It's a guarantee that we'll cry during your ceremony and dance the night away with our cameras in hand.

6. Wedding Gallery Delivery

After your wedding day, I will post a few sneak peaks of your photos on my Instagram and Facebook. Your wedding gallery will be delivered 6-8 weeks after the wedding though a password protected online gallery with a print release included. This means you receive enough images from your day to tell your story and are free to order prints and make albums from any lab! If you're interested in prints or albums, I have suggestions for high quality photo labs that I would love to share with you. I typically delivery between 400 - 900 photos from a wedding day depending on the length of the day, amount of details and decor, and amount of family present. I can promise you that your gallery will tell the complete story of your day, from the anticipation of the early morning to the overwhelming happiness at the end of the night.
